Help for a Manicure or Pedicure in Distress

It happens to the best of us. You just had your nails done, and you smudge the polish before it’s fully cured. Or maybe you chipped a nail while cleaning up after dinner. Or perhaps you just haven’t been able to get to the Salon, and your nails are in desperate need of a fill. If your Manicure or Pedicure is in distress, read on for some tips to deal with the most common Manicure emergencies until you can make it to the Salon for help from the pros.

Smudged or Chipped Polish

If you’ve smudged your polish before it’s completely dried, dip the pad of your finger in nail polish remover (just a tiny amount.) Gently rub the smudged area to smooth it out. Allow it to dry completely, and then apply another thin coat of polish on top. If your polish has chipped, use a fine nail buffer to smooth out the ridge between the polish and your nail. Wipe the nail surface down with alcohol to remove any oils or polish dust from the buffer. Allow to dry and apply a fresh coat of polish. Voila! Good as new!

Chipped or Ragged Nail Tips

If the tips of your nails are a bit chipped, broken, and ragged you can smooth them up with a fine nail file or buffer. Gently file the damaged edge in one direction (no sawing back and forth motion) to the desired shape without taking off too much. Clean the nail with rubbing alcohol and allow it to dry. Apply a fresh coat of polish or topcoat, and wrap it around the tip to seal it.

In Need of a Fill

If your nails are in desperate need of a fill and you just can’t make it to the Salon at the moment, there is a quick and easy solution. Just dab on some chunky glitter nail polish at the base of your nail to cover the area needing to be filled. Coming up from the base of the nail apply the glitter polish more sparingly to create a gradient effect. The gap is now beautifully camouflaged and it can easily be removed when you are finally able to go in to get them filled.
